TEHRAN – Marivan on Monday celebrated receiving an international status as the city of Kalash, a particular lightweight and breathable footwear.

Head of World Crafts Council-Asia Pacific Region Ghada Hijavi along with clusters of Iranian cultural officials and artisans attended the event organized by the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization, Mehr reported.

Marivan won the WCC-APR status earlier in September after a delegation of international experts probed the in-house expertise which has been passed down generations to generations.

Located in western Kordestan province, the city is nationally famous for being a living museum of such footwear made of natural cotton and leather.

The country embraces a total of six cities and one village honored with the prestigious WCC tag.
